Vastu for USA Suburban Homes: Open-Plan Living and Garages

Vastu for US suburban homes adapts to attached garages (placed northwest or west), open-plan kitchens (stove on a southeast perimeter wall, never on a centre island), finished basements (storage, gym, entertainment only), and HOA-friendly internal Yantras and copper plates. North-east facing plots and southwest master suites work best.

American suburban homes, from New Jersey colonials to California ranches and Texas suburban builds, share a few common features that need Vastu adaptation: attached garages, open-plan kitchen-great-rooms, finished basements, and large lawns with cardinal-direction flexibility. Here is our field-tested playbook.

Plot Selection and Cul-de-Sac Position

For NRI families buying new builds in suburbs of Dallas, Atlanta, the Bay Area or Edison NJ, plot selection matters most. North-east or east-facing plots are ideal. Avoid T-junction plots and corner plots where two roads meet at the southwest corner - these create persistent unrest.

Attached Garage Placement

Attached garages are common in the US. They are best placed in the northwest or west - never in the northeast or southeast. A garage in the northeast drains spiritual energy; in the southeast, it conflicts with the fire zone. If you cannot avoid it, place a Vastu pyramid in the garage corner and a copper Swastik on the inside garage door.

Open-Plan Kitchen and Great Room

The American open-plan kitchen merges with the family room. The stove must still sit in the southeast quadrant of the open layout. A central island stove (common in modern builds) creates a fire-in-the-Brahmasthan defect - we relocate cooking to a perimeter wall and use the island for prep only.

Finished Basements

Finished basements are popular for entertainment, home gyms and guest suites. Vastu principles apply even underground: gym equipment in the northwest, entertainment in the west, guest bedroom in the southwest. Avoid placing the home temple in the basement.

Master Suite with Walk-In Closets

Place the master suite in the southwest. Walk-in closets and the master bathroom should sit in the western or southern section of the suite, not the northeastern. A bathroom in the northeast of the master suite is a common defect we correct with a sea-salt bowl, refreshed weekly.

HOA-Friendly External Remedies

Most US HOAs restrict external alterations. We rely on a north-facing flagpole-free mast, internal Yantras, a small Tulsi or basil plant on the porch, and the placement of the house number plaque - all HOA-compliant.

Remote Consultation Across US Time Zones

We schedule video Vastu consultations across PT, MT, CT and ET. Reports include placement diagrams, a phased remedy plan, and follow-up support. Book a US Vastu consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where should an attached garage be in Vastu?

Northwest or west. Never the northeast or southeast. If unavoidable, add a Vastu pyramid in the affected corner and a copper Swastik on the inside garage door.

Is an island stove OK in Vastu?

No. An island stove places fire in the Brahmasthan (centre), which is a serious defect. We recommend using the island for prep only and moving cooking to a perimeter southeast wall.

Can I have a pooja room in the basement?

We strongly advise against placing the home temple in a basement. Use a main-floor northeast corner or a niche in the master suite hallway instead.

What if my HOA restricts external changes?

Nearly all our US remedies are internal - Yantras, copper plates, salt bowls, plant placement, and furniture repositioning. None require HOA approval.
