Kolkata homes and what Vastu looks at in each
Many Kolkata families live in older multi-storey homes shared across generations, with each floor used by a different part of the family. Each floor is read as its own home, with the staircase and any courtyard or light well taken as given. The main door of the building and the entrance to each floor are read separately.
Traditional Bengali baris and colonial-era houses in Ballygunge, Alipore and the north of the city often have courtyards, high ceilings and heavy walls that cannot be changed. Corrections in these homes come from the use of rooms, the placement of furniture and lighting, not from construction.
Salt Lake has planned plots with independent houses, while New Town and Rajarhat have newer high-rise apartments. A Salt Lake house allows a full reading of the plot and the gate; a New Town flat is read like any other fixed apartment plan.
How a consultation works for a Kolkata home
Most consultations start online, from the floor plan and a compass reading, followed by a video session. On-site visits across Kolkata, Salt Lake, New Town, Howrah and Ballygunge are arranged on a scheduled basis and confirmed in advance.
Consultations and written reports can be in Bengali, Hindi or English, as you prefer.
